Mark George
BA (Hons) Design - Scientific & Natural History Illustration

Originally I trained as a scientific & natural history illustrator and successfully qualified to degree level. My artwork has been exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in London as part of a year long national exhibition (IMAGES 21 - the Best of British Illustration). My professional illustration work includes various agency commissions for encyclopaedia books alongside numerous artworks for fictional storybook covers by London based publishers.

I’m a Plymouth based photographer who enjoys photographing the rugged landscape of Dartmoor National Park in the southwest of England. My photography illustrates the stunning scenery of Dartmoor and I’m forever in pursuit of Mother Nature’s magical light. To be honest, I probably spend far too much time weather watching and planning my next adventure.

As a professional teacher of photography, I deliver presentations to photographic societies and regularly lead landscape photography workshops. These workshops mirror my own approach to photography and typically encapsulate some of Dartmoor’s most iconic tors.

Alongside landscape photography, I also love to photograph seascapes from the Devon and Cornwall coastlines. My creative side is never too far away as I sometimes like to indulge in light painting and promotional band photography.

To date, my work has been published in several leading photography magazines, corporate brochures / websites, regional magazines and I also contribute to Getty Images. Much to my amazement, I was contacted by a Hollywood visual effects advisor resulting in one of my coastal sunset images being adapted for Terry Gilliam’s theatrical movie ‘The Zero Theorem’. The movie was shown in cinemas around the world and it was mighty impressive to see my work on the big screen! There’s more about this on my ‘Published Work’ website page.

For now, it’s back to weather watching.
